Kick-off of the MaDe4Rail 2 Project
We are thrilled to announce that, following the official start of the MaDe4Rail 2 project on 1 December 2025, the online kick-off meeting was held on 18 February 2026.
With a total budget of approximately €4.6 million, including €3 million co-funded by EU-Rail JU, and a duration of 36 months, MaDe4Rail 2 builds upon previous results to further advance the design of Maglev-Derived Systems (MDS) for seamless integration into existing railway infrastructure.
The project will combine high-fidelity simulations of the overall transport system with field testing in propulsion, levitation, and guidance up to TRL 6, as well as develop the concept of a full-scale, fully autonomous MDS demonstrator. It will also assess the technical and socio-economic feasibility of implementing MDS within the TEN-T network, contributing to a European roadmap for future deployment.
Bringing together a consortium of 19 European partners, including infrastructure managers, universities, research organisations, and industry, MaDe4Rail 2 aims to drive breakthrough innovation and sustainable rail solutions, support the modal shift, and strengthen rail as the backbone of Europe’s mobility system.
We’re excited to embark on this journey towards the future of rail transport!
